UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Jack Tigh tallied three goals and three assists to boost Chaminade to a 15-7 win over St. Anthony’s for its third straight CHSAA AAA Championship today at Mitchell field.

“I really don’t know how to express this is words, it’s kind of tough,” said Tigh. “This is my last game with all my best buddies. This is great.

“We got the momentum in the second quarter. Brendon Luu was having a day at face-off. Once we got the ball we said, ‘Let’s get in our realm and let’s get focused.’ When we are good we are usually hot to play. Once we got three in a row we started feeling ourselves. This feels great.”

These two rivals split their regular-season games this year, each winning by a goal. The Flyers (13-4) had dropped three of their last six games and fell out of the Epoch Lacrosse North America Top 20. But on this day they were far superior.

Brendon Luu

Brendon Luu

Luu grabbed 21 out of 27 face offs, keeping the ball in Chaminade’s hands. In the second quarter Chaminade went on a 5-0 run that helped forge a 7-1 lead by the 8:20 mark.

The Flyers didn’t let up and held a 10-3 halftime lead. St. Anthony’s (12-4, ranked No. 17) wasn’t able to recover.

John Brennan tallied three goals and two assists, Liam Connors tallied two goals and one assist for Chaminade.

Jack Tigh

“I thought we played as a unified team,” said Luu. “We have been struggling with that the past couple of games.

“I knew if I played my part my teammates would follow and play theirs. I took this like any other game. I knew this was a big game but I didn’t want to pressure myself or get nervous. I just executed. This win feels amazing. There is no other feeling like it.”

Eamon Campbell, Brendan Homire and Jared Nugent tallied two goals each for St. Anthony’s.

“To be honest, I’m happily shocked,” said Chaminade head coach Jack Moran. “We prepared for a one, two goal game. Brendon just controlled the face off and we had the ball so much more than them.

“When they had the ball they scored. It really came down to us having the ball a lot more and executing on offense. Fortunately for us we hit our shots and that makes it a little easier. This was good.”

From Press Release

Registration remains open for tryouts for the International Lacrosse Challenge featuring Team Stars and Stripes vs. Team Maple Leafs and two other international teams.

Attention: Players in grad years 2016, 2017 and 2018. Welcome to the 2015 Team Stars and Stripes tryouts.Stars and stripes 1

As many of you are well aware, last year we challenged TEAM MAPLE LEAFS of Canada in their 2015, 2016 and 2017 grad years to an international border BATTLE challenge.

Each of the games were very competitive and to really get a true feeling for playing on a team like this, you need simply inquire with the limited group of players selected that played on it last year at which point you will likely hear them beam with pride.

This year, we intend on competing once again against Canada’s Team Maple Leafs and in addition, there will likely be teams from Israel, and from Europe competing. trying out for this team and actually making it will most likely not interfere with any other clubs or events you are doing this summer, and it is certainly an honor to make this team and compete. And, while it is not a recruiting event, there will be college coaches attending and certainly making this team is an honor.

While the sport of lacrosse in the US is simply experiencing robust growth, Canada’s field lacrosse is growing equally as rapidly along with their leadership position in box lacrosse and now Israel is seeking to make lacrosse their national sport along with tremendous growth throughout Europe.

Based on my 40 years of unique lacrosse coaching experience at the secondary, collegiate and professional levels, I would absolutely urge and recommend any aspiring secondary school level lacrosse player to be part of this unique lacrosse opportunity as a way to represent the United States against exceptional International competition.” – TED GARBER

This highly accomplished diverse group of lacrosse coaches will be part of evaluation of players at these tryouts.

Evaluating talent and skill in the lacrosse community is a very difficult task but based on the interest already generated, we believe everyone will be granted a fair evaluation regardless of the region they are from, high school they play for or the club they are associated with, and we urge everyone that believe they are strong players to attend the tryout.

Link to register to tryout: https://natinvite175.sportngin.com/register/form/110523126

Canada is a powerhouse in box lacrosse and its national sport is lacrosse. Its players are now, more than ever, competing for roster spots in top US college lacrosse programs and they recently won the international FIL tournament in Denver. We launched a high school challenge last year and the games were very close at every grad year…of the 3 grad years, Stars and Stripes were victorious in two and were defeated in one of our grad years, but all games were close. This year, we are seeking to sweep and we will be hosting tryouts throughout the northeast hotbeds to identify the strongest players seeking to compete.

Due to demand, we are further considering having players elect to play for team Shamrocks (Ireland) and team Gladiators (Italy) as we assemble the international field to compete. This is not a college recruiting event but it is expected to have a strong turnout of college coaches attend and we will provide college coaches player information.

Tryouts for the Team Stars and Stripes, Team Shamrocks and Team Gladiators will take place in select venues throughout Eastern USA.

After the teams are selected, the teams will compete on July 27-28th in a fantastic international competition in upstate, NY.

Regional Tryout Dates:
June 11th – New Jersey @ Madison High School
June 14th – Westchester/Ct @ Choate
June 18th – Mid Atlantic Region @ Shipley – Pa/Md
July 2nd – Long Island @ Mitchel Athletic Park, Long Island

Regional Per Try-out Fee: $125

Tryout Times & Games: This will depend on location/facility & turnout/sign-up

Video Option: All games will be filmed for purchase / All games MAY be used for evaluation.

If you cannot attend any of the try-out dates, you may submit video for evaluation.

Players are urged to attend a tryout. If you live in a region of country that makes attending a tryout impossible, you may send in a video for evaluation for $50, but we urge you to attend one of the tryouts if you live within 2-to-6 hour drive of any of the tryout locations.

Michael Fruhling ledger:

Michael Fruhling

Michael Fruhling

High School: Byram Hills High School, NY

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: Goalie

College Choice: Purdue University

Club Affiliations: Moonlight Lacrosse, Dip N Dunk Lacrosse

Lacrosse Honors: Prime Time Goalie Camp 2013

What will you major in/study? Aerospace Engineering

Why did you choose Purdue? “I loved the atmosphere and the traditional buildings on campus. School comes first, but the lacrosse team is only club and its a growing program with great players and coaches.”

Thoughts on the season: “I think we played a great season. We struggled a bit at the start, but played more like a team as we continued. Even though we lost our last regular season game I think it was the best we played and unfortunately we lost in the first round, but this team was closer to brothers than any team I played on and that’s the biggest accomplishment a program can have!”

Other schools considered: Ohio University, University of Alabama, University of Arizona

NORTHPORT, N.Y. – Jake McCulloch scored off a Dan Bucaro feed with 1:19 to play, lifting Ward Melville to an 11-10 win over Northport today in a Section 11 (Suffolk County) Class A semifinal.

Jake McCullough

Jake McCullough

Ward Melville (17-2), the No. 4 seed, advances to meet Smithtown East (a 17-11 winner over Smithtown West) in the Section 11 championship game on Wednesday at Stony Brook (5:30 p.nm.).

Top-seeded Northpoirt closes at 17-2.

McCullough had three goals and an assist to offset five goals by Michael Trainor and avenge a 7-6 loss to the Tigers on April 22.

“Northport is a great team,” said McCulloch. “They beat us at our place in the regular season so we wanted to get back at them for that.

“There were a lot of runs in this game. We got lucky to get that one shot at the end and come out on top.”

Dan Bucaro

Dan Bucaro

On the game-winner, McCullough credited Bucaro.

“Danny did a great job drawing two guys and I just stepped into the soft spot and shot it past the goalie,” McCullough said. “We’ve done that a million times, me and Dan. We are confident. If we play our game we are a pretty tough team to beat.”

Ward Melville led, 3-0 after one period, but the Tigers used a 5-0 run to seize a 6-5 halftime lead. The Patriots then used their own 5-0 spurt to go ahead 10-7. Northport responded with its own 3-0 surge to tie it on Trainor’s fifth goal with 6:58 remaining.

“This was an unbelievable team effort,” said Bucaro. “I can’t believe this right now. It all feels surreal. We all came together at the end. That is what we have to keep on doing, just play four quarters and we will get it done.”
Corey Aviles (one assist), Eddie Munoz and Connor Grippe each scored two goals for Ward Melville.

“The boys did a great job,” said Ward Melville head coach Jay Negus. “We gave up a couple leads. Hats off to Northport; they did a great job.”

Austin Henningsen won 22 of 25 face-offs for Northport and helped his team own the possessions.

“Their face-off guy is unbelievable,” said Negus. “They had a ton of possessions. We were talking all year about winning individual matchups all over the field, whether it be a ground ball, a shot or a slide and we did it at the end when it counted so I’m just real happy for the boys. They have been working hard all year and it’s a testament to them. They’ve done a great job.”

Nick Roros had three goals and Jake Carrol tallied five assists for Northport.

“I thought it was a superior game,” said Northport head coach Greg Searing. “This was two high level teams going back and forth.

“I don’t think you’re going to find better high school lacrosse then this anywhere in the country.”

“Rogue teaches its players to apply these qualities to conquer their opponents in the game and to overcome obstacles in life. Rogue coaches challenge players to ask themselves: Where am I in the game? Where do I want to be in the game? How can I take my game to the next level? The professional staff at Rogue will show players how to get there. At Rogue, we are coaches but most of all we are players with professional experience.”

“I learned from this weekend that it (being successful) really takes working together with people,” said Mastroianni, who helped her team reach the Onondaga (top division) semifinals and finish fourth. “In the first game everyone was getting used to each other and today we played so well together and I think it showed in the end.”

The Women’s National Tournament featured 64 teams from regions throughout the United States. More than 175 college coaches attended during the two-day tourney.

“It’s an awesome tourney’ you see people you know from other events,” said Mastroianni. “I just thought it was a great experience and to get to work with so many people from all over the state is so cool.”

Long Island dominated the draws behind Katie Hoeg and used precision passing as Jamie Ortega scored four goals, Ashley Lynch had three and Alex Di Chiara, Kerry Defliese and Shannon Kavanagh each had two.

Long Island goaltenders also excelled as Taylor Moreno posted seven saves and Charlotte Campbell had three.

“It’s amazing we all love lacrosse and we came to play today,” said Hoeg, a Mattituck 2016 midfielder committed to North Carolina. “We really executed on the field and it’s really good to see players from all travel teams and high schools come together and represent Long Island.”

Hoeg said the team picked up its game after Saturday’s tie with Massachusetts/Rhode Island/

“I think we really should have beaten them; we held back a little, but in the playoffs we tried to prove we were the best team,” she said.

Ortega, a 2017 midfielder from Middle Country also committed to North Carolina, agreed: “I think it (the tie) was an eye opener. Before that we had not had any close games. We realized that today we knew what we had to do. We had such great connection with each other; I knew where everybody would be.”

Long Island co-coach Megan McCormack was thrilled with her team’s performance.

“They’re a great group and they worked really well all weekend,” she said. “They pushed each other and knew where each other were on the field. Every single one got the job done.”

Maria Auth had two goals to lead Baltimore.

Syosset celebrates the Nassau County Class A championshi

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Alex Concannon collected four goals and four assists as Syosset stunned Massapequa, 17-8, Tuesday to end the Chiefs’ 34-game win streak and claim the Nassau County Class A boys’ lacrosse championship at Hofstra University.

The second-seeded Braves (17-1), who avenged a 7-6 overtime loss to the Chiefs, advance to the Long Island championships Saturday when they meet the Suffolk County champion at Stony Brook at 3:30 p.m. Ward Melville and Smithtown East meet for the Suffolk title today.

Sysosset is ranked No. 4 in the Epoch Lacrosse North America Rankings. Massapequa (17-1), the defending State champions, was ranked No. 2.

“We knew Massapequa was a great team,” said Concannon. “They are No. 2 in the country. We didn’t try to look at that too much.

“We just wanted to play our game. We knew that if we played and connected like we did in practice all week long it would be a great advantage for us and it was tonight. We knew it was going to be close and the only way we would win was if we kept pushing it and pushing it.”

Syosset led, 8-6, at halftime, and then dominated the second half. The Braves scored two quick goals in the third period and Carter Hawthorne countered for Massapequa.

This ignited Syosset, sending the Braves on a 7-0 run as Nicholas Hatzipetrakos tallied three goals and Jonathan Klobus grabbed 10 saves.

“As a coach you never expect to play that close to a perfect game,” said Syosset head coach John Calabria. “Our guys, offensively, defensively were clicking. They were really stepping up and playing.

Alex Concannon

Alex Concannon

“The whole defensive group stepped up and in the second half Jonathan Klobus just shut the door on them.”

Addded Concannon: “Our team has always had a huge history with Massapequa,” said Concannon. “They won it (the Nassau County crown)the last two years. I just knew this being my senior year that I didn’t want to lose this game. I was really happy that our whole team stuck together.”

Nick Yevoli and Carter Hawthorne tallied three goals each and Tom Kempton grabbed nine saves for Massapequa.

“This is the end of a career run,” said Massapequa head coach Tim Radomski. “The seniors had three losses in two years, a state championship and three county finals.

“I’m proud of my seniors. They’ve done things we haven’t done in our program, defeating Garden City, Chaminade and going undefeated in the conference. Sometimes you run into a buzz saw and tonight we ran into a buzz saw. They grabbed every ground ball. They were much more physical. We haven’t had this feeling in a long time, but we will be back.”

Concluded Calabria: “Alex (Concannon) was the man for us tonight in every capacity. His five year career was just capped off in one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play. He really stepped up for this team. He was just amazing. These kids have been playing together since they were in kindergarten. This team has worked so hard for this since June so they deserved this.

“So this is probably if not the biggest win of my career. Defeating Massapequa the defending state champs is phenomenal.”

“We just wanted to execute on both offense and defense,” said Dunn. “I feel like we did that. We really wanted to shut down their attack and I feel we did that. Offensively we had minimal turnovers so we were really psyched about that.

“We feel great. We feel accomplished that we finally get to win a county championship. I’ve never won a county championship. We’ve made it to the finals every year. This is our first year winning this and it is a great feeling.”

Manhasset used a goal by Logan Dunn to spark a 6-0 run that opened an 8-2 lead in the fourth period. Lynbrook made a 4-0 run in the final quarter but could not pull closer than 8-6.

Jack Miller tallied two goals and one assist and Matthew Gavin tallied two goals for Manhasset.

“I thought our kids played so hard,” said Manhasset head coach Bill Cherry. “Lynbrook got it to 2-2 and we answered with a goal going into half 3-2. I just told them at half that if they want it this is the quarter they had to take it and they did.

“They were more patient. They played as a team. Our defense stepped up huge. Lynbrook is so well coached. My kids played tremendous.”

Michael Toy tallied two goals and one assist and Brendan McDougal grabbed nine saves for Lynbrook.

“We ran into a tough well coached team,” said Lynbrook head coach Bill Leighley. “They obviously came prepared today. It was one of the toughest lacrosse games I’ve ever seen. Both teams played tough and they just played better than us today.”

Wantagh (17-2) advances to the Long Island Championship game where they it play Suffolk champion Eastport-South Manor Saturday at Adelphi University at 7:30 p.m.

The Warriors’ win over Manhasset (18-1) – the No. 2 team in the STEPS Lacrosse North America Rankings – followed an 8-7 semifinal victory over the former No. 3 team, Manhasset.

“I was a little nervous,” said Beshlian, whose Warriors are ranked No. 10 by STEPS. “But playing Manhasset who wouldn’t be nervous? With the record like they had, we were definitely the underdog and we wanted to prove everybody wrong. I just tried to do my best and with my defense in front of me, we just finished the job.

“Every time our offense scored it just made me want to make the stops even more.”

Kaitlyn Cerasi scored the first goal of the game giving Wantagh an early 1-0 lead but a minute later Lindsey Ronbeck found the back of the net tying the game at one. At the 16:03 mark Taylor
Carson gave Wantagh a two goal lead. Manhasset powered back pulling within one goal with 4:32 left in the first half sending

Wantagh used a 4-0 run to break a 4-4 tie at the end of the first half the half. Manhasset pulled within two goals once in the second half, but never got closer.

Courtney Gendels tallied three goals and Madison Conway added two goals and one assist for Wantagh.

“We’ve been knocking on this door and knocking on this door,” said Wantagh head coach Jaclyn Coyne. “We finally came and knocked it down.

“We are here now and we are not going anywhere. This was a full team effort.”

Coyne credited Beshlain.

“When our goalie is on everyone is on,” she said. “We just stayed poised and kept the team effort. This team deserved it so much and they worked so hard.

“We are not to be underestimated. The girls are very strong and confident and we just have to stay poised and humble. As long as we play like we did today and everyone has the touches that they had, the defense is on and Grace is playing like she did, we will be prepared.”

Lindsey Ronbeck tallied three goals and one assist for Manhasset.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Katelyn Igneri tallied four goals to lift Syosset to a 7-3 victory over Farmingdale to claim its first Nassau County Class A championship Wednesday at Adelphi University.

Syosset (10-5) will play West Islip for the Long Island Championship on Saturday at 5pm at Adelphi University.

Farmingdale, only 4-13, had won the past nine county championships.

“Last time we played Farmingdale it was close, too close for us,” said Igneri of a 9-8 win over the Dalers three weeks ago. “We needed more comfort this game and we got it.

“They pressured us very well. After we talked with our coach and got our team all on one page we figured out how to kick the pressure. There were a lot of nerves, but boy did we want this.”

Syosset led, 4-2, at halftime and Farmingdale pulled within 4-3 early in the second half on a goal by Tara Wahl. But Nicole Concannon and Igneri each scored to give Syosset a 6-3 lead.

“I told my girls it would require heart and hustle to win this for the first time in our program history,” said Syosset head coach Lauren LoMonaco. “They left everything out on the field. They absolutely had heart and hustle.

Katelyn Igneri

“We haven’t really looked into West Islip yet but I’ll do my homework in the next two days and make sure we are ready. We knew Farmingdale was very good at setting picks and we practiced that for the last four days. This game really came down to defensive communication.”

Jillian Alonso tallied two assists for Farmingdale.

“We came a long way,” said Farmingdale head coach Shari Campbell. “My fear was that if we got in trouble we were going to revert to what we did when we were struggling. Unfortunately offensively that is what happened.

“Kudos to Syosset, they played a great game. They played a perfect game. They played a game without very many mistakes. We absolutely dominated the second half with possession of the ball, but we could not score. That is the tale of our season.”

Concluded Igneri: “This is indescribable. We put in a lot of hard work and it paid off. I feel confident going forward. We have a lot of research to take care of but once we learn what the next team is all about we will definitely match them and have a good game.”

From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse today announced the 108-player tryout pool for the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Under-19 Team, with tryouts to be held from June 29-July 1 at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md.US-lacrosse1

After the three-day tryout, approximately 50 players will be selected to return for a second tryout Aug. 7-9 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. Ultimately, 23 players will be named to the final roster for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

In February, US Lacrosse announced Ohio State University head coach Nick Myers as head coach of the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team. Myers will lead the team in its quest for an eighth consecutive world title at the FIL World Championship, and will be assisted by Patrick Myers (University of Pennsylvania), Chuck Ruebling (Delbarton School) and Peter Toner (Penn State University).

Nearly 400 applicants from 28 states applied for consideration to the tryout pool, including more than 140 commits to 2015 NCAA Division I tournament teams. From there, a diverse group of high school and college coaches from around the country assisted the coaching staff in evaluating and ranking each player.

The 108-player tryout pool, by position with high school, college commitment and high school graduation year noted:
