NEWARK, Del. – Below are 10 Players that Shined in the Battle of the Hotbeds this week at the University of Delaware.
Jack Gross, Black Rhinos, 2014, Attack, Gross moves well for a 6’1 attackman from Lincoln High School (Oregon). The rising senior moves the ball with precision and has a great shot on goal. Great I.Q.
R.J. Garcia, Florida Carolina, 2014, Attack, Garcia has all the tools to play at the next level; he is quick, has good hands, isn’t selfish, and has a monster shot. The Ponte Vedra (FL) talent is committed to Jacksonville.
Ian Danahy, IAS Cougars, 2014, Attack, At 5’11 Danaghy looks like he could get pushed around by bigger defenders but he delivers his shoulder on the dodge and is a beast getting to the cage. The Clarkstown South H.S. (N.Y.) talent has impressive instincts and distributes the ball fairly well.
Carter Yepsen, Minn Elite U-17, 2014, Midfield, Yepsen, had a great summer on the recruiting tourney circuit. The Rosemount High rising senior has good skills and makes good decisions with the ball. Yepsen was selected to the 2014 Battle of the Hotbeds All-Star team.
Chris Wetzel, MO22, 2014, Midfield, Wetzel is a solid D-middie that delivers good checks with the short stick and moves the rock up field with ease. The John Burroughs (MO) product plays with tons of heart and has a great motor. Wetzel is committed to Colgate.
Matthew Marone, Patriots, 2014, Attack, Marone, 6’2 205lb, is a beast at the attack spot. The kid moves around pretty well and makes smart decisions with the ball. The Delbarton (N.J.) star – whose dad Moses Marone starred at Delaware in the early 1980s – has a monster shot and will be a key contributor at the next level.
Scott McNamara, Team Minnesota, 2015, Midfield, McNamara has good footwork and quick hands. As a middie he gets up and down the field well at 5’11 170lb with good conditioning. Has a good game and should have improved his stock after this week at Hotbeds.
Michael Eveland, Twist Blue, 2015, Defense, Eveland has next level talent with great footwork and pinpoint checks. The Central Bucks East (PA) talent also plays on the wing on faceoffs and gets to the X pretty fast. Eveland has good leadership qualities.
Justin Roach, Black Rhinos, 2014, Goalie, Roach made some pinpoint saves on D1 commits from the Florida Carolina squad. He made it look easy and has a quick release on clears. Roach has great size at 6’2. The Westview (Ore.) talent has a superb lacrosse I.Q.
Ryan Shaw, Patriots, 2016, Midfield/FO, Shaw is a nifty faceoff specialist from Boys’ Latin (Md.). The 5’10 165lb Shaw has good awareness at the X and has good positioning. The pinch and pop is crisp and he gets the ball down field after a win pretty quickly. Shaw made the 2016 Battle of the Hotbeds All-Star team.
