Some high school lacrosse highlights from this week:
Pittsford (NY) 6, Duxbury (MA) 5
Upstate New York’s Pittsford met Duxbury (MA) for the first time Monday on the campus of Hamilton College. This was a match up of perennial state powerhouses with rosters loaded with D1 commits. The defenses prevailed early in the game until Pittsford’s Brandon Barker scored two unanswered goals.
The game went back and forth with stingy defenses and superior goaltending much of the game. In the closing minutes of the game with the score 5-5, Jon Perrotto scored the game winner with an assist from Brandon Barker.
Pittsford was led by junior Brandon Barker (Ohio St.), who had three goals and two assists. Junior Perrotto added two goals and senior Steven Quinzy (Georgetown) had one goal and one assist.
Brother Rice (MI) 20, Cranbrook (MI) 8
Brother Rice, the 2013 Division I state champion, improved to 5-0 with a convincing win over 2013 Division 2 State Champion Cranbrook. Reid Fisher paced the offense with seven goals, while Jason Alessi scored four and added an assist. Rice’s Evan Dennis dominated the face-off circle with 24 face off victories. The Warrior defense, led by defenseman Joe Plaskey and goalie Chris Lievois, gave up only five goals in three quarters, before both teams put in their reserves.
The Warriors’ host Western Reserve (OH) and No. 2-ranked Culver Academy (IN) this weekend.
Palmer (CO) 13, Highland Ranch (CO) 12
Senior captain Sam Horning started the scoring for Palmer (4-2) and finished it in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, winning it with 18 seconds to play. Horning had five goals and two assists and had three of his team’s last four goals.
