RANDOLPH, N.J. – Greer Guyer admitted the Terriers had a slight letdown early Sunday in the second day of the Nike Elite 120 by STEPS Lacrosse at the Indoor Sports Pavilion.

2018 champion Terriers
“We won all our games Saturday and then lost our first game Sunday and didn’t have the same enthusiasm we had had the day before,” said the 2018 midfielder from Penn Charter (PA) and STEPS Philly. “So we said, ‘Guys we have to step it up’ and we had a jam session in the locker room and we played together again.”
Guyer and the Terriers rebounded and reached the finals where they defeated the Eagles, 8-7, for the team title. The two-day event, which also featured testing in four skills by Parisi Speed School, drew 80 college coaches.
“My goal coming in was to get along with my teammates, meet new girls and have some fun while showcasing my skills to the best of mu abilities to the coaches,” Guyer said. “I just really wanted to win and have great chemistry. I am an outgoing person and I like helping (teammates) and making them look good.”
Guyer said her team’s positive energy pulled it through.
“You have to bring a positive attitude,” she said. “After they (the Eagles) scored those first two goals, we got it together. I learned you always have to have a positive attitude in everything you do.”
Guyer said that positive energy also applied to the Parisi Testing.

“Every girl felt they were doing horribly in the testing but we got through it together,” she said. “For the 300 we were all cheering each other on and that started our togetherness.”
Other interviews from members of the Terriers:
Alaina Parisella, 2018 Attack, Mount St. Mary, NJ, STEPS Elite, NJ
What were your goals and what did you accomplish?
Parisella: “This year I really wanted to improve from last year, and I feel like I accomplished that. I also wanted to try new strategies against all of the talent that I played against.”
Why was your team so successful?
Parisella: “My team blended so well for a group of strangers. We did really good introducing ourselves and noticing each others strengths. The team’s chemistry was key in each game.”
How did you enjoy the Parisi Speed Testing?
Parisella: “I did alright on the testing, but I could have done better. My strengths were definitely shown on the field. I think it was a good warm up to prepare for game time, and I liked comparing my times to top players.”
What did you learn that will help you prepare for the spring season?
Parisella: “Our coach, Bev Altig (Maryland United), fit so well with the team. She gave us tips on each of our weaknesses and guided us to the championship. It was great to learn new things from a different coach, and I can definitely take her coaching tips with me for the next season.”

Mikayla Dwyer, 2018 midfield, Shoreham-Wading River, NY/LI Yellowjackets
What were your goals and what did you accomplish?
Dwyer: “Our team was unselfish. I think in some cases people think they have to score, but we just went in with the flow of the game.
Why was your team so successful?
Dwyer: “Our unselfishness. Coach got us to jell together, and we were all big supporters of that. We worked it and we were patient. That was the key; it was not about yourself. Coaches are not looking for that.”
What did you learn that will help you heading into the spring season?
Dwyer: “I wanted to win, but you have to have fun and throw your all into it. You want to showcase yourself, but you want to have fun.”
From the runner-up Eagles: Emma Wightman, Ridge, NJ, 2018 midfield, T3
What were your goals and what did you accomplish?

Emma Wightman of runner-up Eagles
Wightman: “My main goal was try my best and meet new people while adapting to a new team. I thought it was a lot of fun.”
What did you learn that will help you heading into the spring season?
Wightman: “I learned a the backer defense; where you have a player that goes around the 8 to help on defense. That was me. And it was a lot of fun to meet new people.”
How did you enjoy the Parisi Speed Testing?
Wightman: “In the 5-10-5 I learned to shift my body weight before the turn. That’s good for defenders to change direction really fast. I think I did pretty well. I did my best time in the 300 because I have good endurance.”
Why was your team so successful?
Wightman: “I think we really just worked well together. We adapted and I would say we looked like a team playing with each other a long time.”
