McDonogh School (MD) has been named the No. 1 team in the Preseason STEPS Lacrosse North America Girls’ Rankings for 2015.
The Eagles enter the year on an incredible streak of five straight undefeated seasons and six consecutive championships in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM).
McDonogh, the No. 1 team each week these rankings have been run since the start of 2013, closed at 21-0 in 2014 and increased its national record (girls’ lacrosse) winning streak to 112 games.
Preseason STEPS Lacrosse North America Girls’ Rankings
1. McDonogh School (MD) 21-0
The Eagles aim for a seventh straight IAAM title and to extend their national-best girls’ win streak.
2. Moorestown (N.J.) 26-0
The Quakers also are on a win streak, with 77 straight victories and three consecutive NJ Tournament of Champions crowns.
3. Manhasset (N.Y.) 19-1
The Indians are the defending NY Class B state champions.
4. Bishop Ireton (VA) 20-4
The Cardinals were Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) champions last year.
5. St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) 14-3
The Friars have won seven straight Catholic High School titles on Long Island.
6. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 27-2
The Saints look to regain the VISAA title from Bishop Ireton.
7. Suffern (N.Y.) 16-4
The Mounties reached the NY Class A semifinals last year.
8. Severn School (MD) 14-5
The Admirals did everything right in last year’s IAAM semifinals game before bowing to No. 1 McDonogh, 13-12.
9. Vero Beach (FL) 21-3
The Fighting Indians have won nine straight state titles.
10. Darien (CT) 21-2
The Blue Wave won the CT Class L championship last year.
11. Mt. Sinai (N.Y.) 17-1
The Mustangs, who won the state Class C title in 2013, look to take another shot at a title after being knocked out in the County finals last year.
12. Milton (GA) 19-3
The Eagles have won 9 of the last 10 Georgia state titles.
13. Garden City (13-4)
The Trojans, who won seven straight Class B state titles from 2006-12, look to return to compete for a state crown.
14. Archbishop Spalding (MD) 15-6
The Cavaliers have emerged as an IAAM contender after two strong seasons.
15. Summit (N.J.) 21-2
The Hilltoppers gave Moorestown all it could handle in last year’s New Jersey TOC finals.
16. Roland Park (MD) 16-5
The Reds reached the IAAM finals last year with a tremendous end-of-the-year run.
17. West Genesee (N.Y.) 20-1
The Wildcats look to repeat as Class A state champs.
18. Skaneateles (N.Y.) 22-1
The Lakers are the defending Class C state champs.
19. Georgetown Visitation (DC) 17-8
The Tigers, who always play a tough non-league schedule, lost five games by one goal last year.
20. (tie) West Islip (N.Y.) 21-1
The Lions were undefeated last year until dropping the Class A final to West Genesee.
20. Good Counsel (MD) 14-6
The Falcons will content with Bishop Ireton in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
