The Long Island Yellow Jackets 2017 Blue team faced some familiar foes on its way to the US Lacrosse U15 girls’ National championship today in Aurora, CO.

The Yellow Jackets defeated their sister team, the Yellow Jackets Gold, 11-5, in the semifinals and then downed the Yellow Jackets 2018 squad, 13-7, to claim the title.
The YJ 2018 team surprised top-seeded Team Elevate, another Long Island power, 14-13, in overtime on goals by Meaghan Tyrrell and Madison Sanchez. The 2018 team, comprised on all 8th graders, also won the Northeast championship by defeating the 2017 Yellow Jackets. Team Elevate had dramatically sent the game into overtime on a late full-field dash by Katie Kotowski (Cold Spring Harbor).
In the championship game, Game MVP Jamie Ortega (Middle Country, UNC commit) had four goals and two assists and Tayn Ohmiller (West Islip, Towson) also had a big day offensively for the YJ Blue team. Hannah Kenneally and Tyrrell led the attack for the 2018 YJs.
The YJ 2017 Gold team claimed the bronze with a 10-7 win over Team Elevate.
