GARDEN CITY,N.Y. – Haley O’Hanlon collected five goals and one assist to spark Garden City a 14-9 victory today over Long Island rival St. Anthony’s.

The win raised was crucial for Garden City (10-3, ranked No, 10 by Brine/TopLaxRecruits), which had dropped three of its last five games by one goal. The Friars (No. 4) fell to 10-2 with their second loss in three games.
“This is so exciting,” said O’Hanlon. “After losing the past two years to them coming out here and being able to beat them boosts our energy so much.
“At half time we were up a lot, but we knew we couldn’t sit on that because playing a team like this they can most definitely come back.”
Garden City broke open a 2-2 game with a 5-0 run. After St. Anthony’s drew within 7-3, the Trojans went on another 5-0 surge to seize a 12-3 advantage.
Michaela Bruno tallied two goals and three assists for Garden City, Katie Muldoon tallied three goals and Tara DeAngelo tallied two goals and one assist for Garden City.
“St. Anthony’s is an incredibly talented team,” said Garden City head coach Diane Chapman. “Our offense did a great job moving the ball and breaking down their defense to get some nice looks at the cage.
“It was a great game. We had a couple of losses that were tough losses so winning against a strong powerhouse team helps them mentally and going into the playoffs.”
Katharine O’Neil tallied three goals and one assist and Izzy Mangan tallied two goals and one assist for St. Anthony’s.
