From US Lacrosse
US Lacrosse has announced the addition of 14 programs as new members of the Urban Lacrosse Alliance (ULA), an affiliation of like-minded organizations dedicated to expanding lacrosse opportunities for urban youth. ULA members receive resources from US Lacrosse to support lacrosse development in underserved areas.

Created in 2014, the Urban Lacrosse Alliance is an initiative that supports US Lacrosse’s strategic goal to help foster increased diversity and inclusion efforts within the game.
“One of the primary benefits of having the Urban Lacrosse Alliance is the structure that it provides for each of our organizations to connect and network with each other,” said Eboni Preston-Laurent, senior manager of diversity and inclusion at US Lacrosse. “We hope that the exchange of best practices and strategies will allow for further success in each program.”
The newest ULA programs are:
Bridge Lacrosse – Dallas, Texas
Decatur (Ill.) Park District
Jersey City (N.J.) Lacrosse Club
Kingsessing Road Runners Lacrosse – Philadelphia, Pa.
Konawaena Wildcats Lacrosse Club – Kealakekua, Hawaii
Lexington (Ky.) Traditional Magnet School
Miami Shores Lightning – Pembroke Pines, Fla.
PUCKidz, Inc. – Chula Vista, Calif.
Serviam Girls Academy – New Castle, Del.
South Bend (Ind.) Bears Lacrosse Club
Storm Lacrosse Club – Ranches, Fla.
Taravella High School – Coconut Creek, Fla.
Tipton County (Tenn.) Lacrosse Club
Youth Life Support Network – Albany, N.Y.
The addition of these new affiliates raises the ULA’s enrollment to 55 total members.
Resources provided annually by US Lacrosse to ULA affiliates include lacrosse sticks, uniforms, cleats, subsidized officials fees, and field rental assistance, among other things. The support provided is designed to be sufficiently flexible to enable applicants to address needs unique to their local lacrosse community.
A new ULA benefit being introduced this year is a first-ever affiliates conference, scheduled for August 5-6 at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Maryland. The two-day conference, open only to ULA member youth coaches and administrators, is designed to enhance networking and education opportunities.
“We’re excited to be hosting this event and in facilitating an opportunity for our ULA members to share ideas and successes with each other,” Preston-Laurent said. “We’ll also have a great line-up of presenters who will provide information about issues of interest to ULA members, including recruiting and motivating volunteers, forming community partnerships, fundraising, budgeting and trauma-sensitive coaching.”
To be eligible for ULA consideration, existing organizations must provide lacrosse participation opportunities in which a majority of the participants are urban or underrepresented youth. Organizations must also provide participants with life skills enrichment (tutoring, mentorship, college guidance) and deliver their programming through experienced and committed leaders.
