Staff Report
Eighteen of the top-ranked girls’ teams in the country from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will compete Saturday in the 3rd Annual Gains For Brains Lax Showcase at Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.

The event raises money to benefit the Making Headway Foundation, which is dedicated to the care and comfort of children with brain and spinal cord tumors. The event was founded two years ago by MSG Varsity’s Andrew (Raff) Rappaport, who wanted to create a fun way to raise money for a needy cause.
Once again the tourney will feature nine games, including an incredible nine teams ranked in the Summit Lacrosse North America Rankings.
One of the games features No. 4 Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ) vs. No. 15 Middle Country (NY) at 4 p.m. on the lower field. In that game, two seniors signed with defending national champion North Carolina, Bridgewater’s Allison Mastroianni and Middle Country’s Jamie Ortega, will square off. Mastroianni (in 2015) and Ortega (in 2016) are the past two winners of the prestigious Heather Leigh Albert winner as the top underclassmen at the Women’s National Tournament.
There is no admission, but donations will be taken and spectators can also buy warm-up t-shirts and baked goods in a massive bake sale.
The schedule is as follows:
