From 2006 to 2012, Garden City won New York Class B state titles. The past three years the Trojans failed to reach the Long Island championship game, but Saturday at Cortland Garden City earned the Class B crown again with a 16-5 rout of Yorktown at SUNY Cortland.
Katie Muldoon dominated the draws and had five goals and three assists as Garden City (21-1, No. 3 in the STEPS Lacrosse North America Rankings) scored the first seven goals of the game.
Kerry Defliese had three goals and Brooke McDaid added a goal and four assists while Jackie Brattan and Jenn Medjidfor each had two goals the Trojans (Section 8 champs).
Katie Comerford had three goals for Section 1 champ Yorktown (17-6).
Class A – Christian Brothers (3) 11, Pittsford (5) 6
The Brothers (No. 4 in STEPS lacrosse Rankings) completed a 21-0 season with the easy victory over Pittsford (18-3).
Emily Ehle collected three goals and an assist and Samantha McKennea had a goal and four assists for Christian Brothers.
Class C: 2:30 pm – Mt. Sinai (11) 12, Skaneateles (3) 3
The No. 9 Mustangs won their second straight state title and third in four years with the win over the Lakers (13-8).
Led by goalie Hannah Van Middelem and the Mt. Sinai defense, the Mustangs scored seven straight goals to seize an 8-1 lead midway through the second half. Erica Shea and Meaghan Tyrrell each scored three goals.
