“I tried out because we’ve been up here for about 3 weeks and I thought it would be fun to represent the state of Georgia and also USA in the tournament,” said the 2018 LSM from Mount Paran Christian School (GA). “There was a lot of competition, but I feel really good about it, I thought I did well.”

Staggs was one of many that tried out for Team Stars and Stripes, which will compete against Team Maple Leafs, Team Iroquois and Team Israel in the International Challenge in late July at RPI.

Staggs was hopeful he will be selected for the 2018 team.

“I think the tryouts went really well.” he said. “I think they were run very well. I think that I did really well. I think that I threw some good checks, some good settled checks.

“I feel like the competition was really good but I didn’t let it get in my head. I just played the game stayed focused.”

Tryouts already were held in New Jersey at Connecticut and the last one will be held Thursday afternoon in Suburban Philly at Plymouth Whitemarsh High. Click here to register for the final tryout.
