CORTLAND – BSN game MVP Kasey Mitchell scored five goals and Meaghan Tyrrell added two goals and two assists to day as Mt. Sinai defeated defending champion Skaneateles, 13-7, in the New York Class C semifinals at Cortland State University.
Mt. Sinai (19-1), the Section 11 champion and No. 8 team in the STEPS Lacrosse North America Rankings, advances to the state finals Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to meet Honeoye Falls-Lima, a 14-10 winner over Bronxville.
The Mustangs, the 2013 state champs, bolted to an 8-3 halftime lead and then coasted home. Sydney Pirreca and Caroline Hoeg each had two goals and Jess Demeo and Cameron Harloff each had a goal and an assist. Hannah Van Middelem had four saves in goal.
“It was a great game between two great teams,” said Mustangs coach Al Bertolone. “We played great defense and Mitchell and Pirreca had monster games.”
Kyla Sears had two goals and an assist for the Lakers (18-4) while Bailey Herr, Makena Gorman, Hannah Powers, Catie Woodruff and Molly Newton each had a goal.
Class A
West Islip 10, West Genesee 5
Suffern 8, Pittsford Mendon 6
BSM game MVP Lena Riportella had four goals and Emily Piciullo had three while Vanessa Costantino added two goals and two assists sand Emily Beier contributed a goal and three assists for West Islip (18-3). Lauren Distefano posted eight saves.
The game was a rematch of last year’s state final, won 15-10 by West Genesee (16-4).
West Islip will play Suffern – an 8-6 winner over Pittsford Mendon – in the state final Saturday at noon. The Wildcats were making their eighth Final Four appearance in nine years and had won the title every time they reached the semis.
West Islip outscored West Genesee, 8-2, after falling behind 3-2. Piciullo tied it, 3-3 and Riportella tallied the next two goals before Beier made it 6-3.
Nicky Delaney led the Wildcats with two goals while Grace Osterdale, Madisyn Kittell and Kyra Bednarski each had one.
Class B
Eastport-South Manor 13, Watertown 6
Somers 14, Victor 8
BSM Game MVP Samantha Giacalone made nine saves and Kaeli Huff had four goals as Eastport-South Manor advanced to the title game.
The Sharks ((18-3, ninth in the STEPS Lacrosse Rankings), the Section 11 champs, will face Somers, a 14-8 winner over Victor.
ESM took a 6-2 halftime lead over Watertown (18-3) and stretched it to 11-3 at one point in the second half.
Kasy Choma had three goals and Kelsey Huff added two goals and two assists while Kaitlyn Dowsett had two goals and an assist and Laura Kesnig had a goal and three assists. Hannah Kenneally scored once.
Olivia Miles and Jillian Girardi each had three goals for Watertown.
