UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Jack Tigh tallied three goals and three assists to boost Chaminade to a 15-7 win over St. Anthony’s for its third straight CHSAA AAA Championship today at Mitchell field.

“I really don’t know how to express this is words, it’s kind of tough,” said Tigh. “This is my last game with all my best buddies. This is great.

“We got the momentum in the second quarter. Brendon Luu was having a day at face-off. Once we got the ball we said, ‘Let’s get in our realm and let’s get focused.’ When we are good we are usually hot to play. Once we got three in a row we started feeling ourselves. This feels great.”

These two rivals split their regular-season games this year, each winning by a goal. The Flyers (13-4) had dropped three of their last six games and fell out of the Epoch Lacrosse North America Top 20. But on this day they were far superior.

Luu grabbed 21 out of 27 face offs, keeping the ball in Chaminade’s hands. In the second quarter Chaminade went on a 5-0 run that helped forge a 7-1 lead by the 8:20 mark.

The Flyers didn’t let up and held a 10-3 halftime lead. St. Anthony’s (12-4, ranked No. 17) wasn’t able to recover.

John Brennan tallied three goals and two assists, Liam Connors tallied two goals and one assist for Chaminade.

“I thought we played as a unified team,” said Luu. “We have been struggling with that the past couple of games.

“I knew if I played my part my teammates would follow and play theirs. I took this like any other game. I knew this was a big game but I didn’t want to pressure myself or get nervous. I just executed. This win feels amazing. There is no other feeling like it.”

Eamon Campbell, Brendan Homire and Jared Nugent tallied two goals each for St. Anthony’s.

“To be honest, I’m happily shocked,” said Chaminade head coach Jack Moran. “We prepared for a one, two goal game. Brendon just controlled the face off and we had the ball so much more than them.

“When they had the ball they scored. It really came down to us having the ball a lot more and executing on offense. Fortunately for us we hit our shots and that makes it a little easier. This was good.”
