WANTAGH, N.Y. – Kerry Defliese tallied four goals and visiting Garden City closed the game with a 5-0 run to spark an 11-6 victory over Wantagh today in a battle of undefeated Long Island powers.

Garden City (12-0) is ranked No. 4 in the STEPS Lacrosse North America Rankings while the Warriors (11-1) are ranked No. 19.
“This was definitely a really good game for us,” said Defliese. “We had to come out strong, hard from the start and play both halves, which we did.
“We knew when it was tied that it couldn’t end like that. We made some adjustments on the draw. Getting the draw was crucial because we need to get possession to win. This is a really good win for us but we still have the rest of the season left. We will see them again in the playoffs and it will be even bigger then.”
Jenn Medjid (three goals) scored to spark the 5-0 run after Wantagh had notched the first two goals of the second half. Michaela Bruno tallied one goal and two assists and Brooke McDaid tallied one goal and two assists for Garden City.
“This was a great game by both teams,” said Garden City head coach Diane Chapman. “You knew it was going to be back and forth. You knew it was going to be close.
“I’m just really proud of how we stepped it up in the second half to be able to pull apart. I thought we did a great job on the draw controls. They are a fantastic great team. I’m really proud of our team effort; it was a great team effort.”
Kaitlyn Cerasi tallied three goals and one assist and Madison Conway tallied two goals for Wantagh.
“Both teams played real tough,” said Wantagh head coach Jaclyn Coyne. “Today just wasn’t our day. Hopefully we see them again in the post season and we turn it up.”
